Tribe Tips & Tricks – Noise Suppression!

Noise Suppression

Great news! The Microsoft Teams desktop app now includes Noise Suppression? If you join a call and find yourself in a noisy location, it can be embarrassing for you and distracting for your colleagues. Wearing a headset and muting your microphone when not talking will help, but it does not solve the problem completely.

?

By default, when you join a meeting the noise suppression system will listen for background noise, such as a computer fan or washing machine and automatically switch to the appropriate settings (between off and low) to remove that noise. How good is the system? Set to high, it is unbelievably good! Watch Rob in the attached video to see how well it works. If you want to switch off noise suppression or manually set it to high:

a. Open the Teams desktop app

b. At the top-right of the screen, click your profile image

c. Click Devices

d. Select the setting you require Low is designed to remove constant background noise such as the sound of a fan High is designed to remove all sound other than voice

We still recommend wearing a headset and muting when you are not talking during busy meetings. It is good meeting etiquette to politely tell your colleague if their audio quality is bad. Remember they can’t tell what it sounds like themselves.
